Pediatric Services

PTSR provides pediatric services in physical therapy for Hastings Public School. The purpose of physical therapy in the school system is to provide equal opportunities by promoting increasing independence while providing the least restrictive and most supportive environment. The goal of physical therapy for preschool age children is to assist the child in gross motor development and mobility. The PT may facilitate play and positions for play as well as help parents with the use of braces, equipment, and assistive devices as needed to improve the child’s mobility.

Children eligible for services are between the ages of 0 and 21 and live within the Hastings Public School district. Referrals may be made to the school district by concerned patients, family members, teachers, etc. Parents will always have to sign a permission to test before any services take place. Sessions may take place in the public elementary schools, middle school and high school as well as homes and daycares for younger children. A few conditions that may warrant PT services would be cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Down’s Syndrome, prematurity, developmental delay and any other conditions affecting mobility or development.
