By now you’ve certainly at least heard of the term, but do you know what Dry Needling is? Do you know what it is used for? Completely distinct from acupuncture, Functional Dry Needling (FDN) is a technique using a solid filament needle to stimulate trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues. Be eliciting a muscle twitch, and in turn improving blood flow and oxygen to the dysfunctional tissue, the taut musculature releases.
In other words, a solid core needle is used to treat taut bands of muscle tissue to alleviate spasm, improve flexibility, reduce pain and irritation, and restore function. FDN is based on modern western medicine, supported by research & performed by certified Physical Therapists.
FDN is paired with strengthening and stretching to restore health and prevent relapse of symptoms. Needling soreness is common, but typically only lasts 12-48 hours. Staying hydrated and staying active helps minimize soreness and optimize outcomes.
Conditions that benefit from FDN include, but are not limited to: Tendinitis, muscle strains, muscle tightness, back pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, headaches, jaw pain, chronic pain.
